The Simca 1200 Campero was built primarily for the Spanish market, in principle as a response to the Citroën Méhari and the Renault Rodéo. The technical basis was provided by the Simca 1200. The 1294 cm3 engine was given a higher compression ratio and 65 DIN horsepower at 6000 rpm. In 1975, Automobil Revue reported on the Spanish SUV predecessor, which was certainly comparable to the later Matra-Simca Rancho.
The Campero was available in various versions, for example as a pickup or with a full-length hardtop body. The body was made partly of sheet steel and partly of plastic.
The front-wheel drive Campero was built from 1973 to 1979.
