Famous advertising slogans for not-so-famous cars
"A beautiful piece of progress can move mountains", "The new great among compact cars", "All doors are open to it", "Don't just look it in the eye" or "The car that only a few drivers will drive".
Do these slogans sound familiar to you?
Perhaps, but you would hardly have associated them with the first Mazda 323. During the research for our vehicle report on the rear-wheel drive Mazda 323( 1977-1980), we came across a huge number of advertisements. Back then, Mazda dug deep into their wallets, especially in Germany, to make people realize what a good car the little 323 was.
The advertising slogans also looked at the competition, for example the statement "only a few drivers will drive it" was also used by Porsche (Carrera RS 2.7). And with "Don't just look him in the eye", movie fans will immediately think of Humphrey Bogart and Casablanca ("I'm looking you in the eye, little one").
Did the whole campaign work? In any case, the Mazda 323 was often seen on our roads back then ...
P.S. We have also put the subjects together again in a small collection of pictures .
