Who you gonna Callaway?

Was this a Chevrolet owner playing a little joke on his second car? Not at all! The prominent lettering at the top of the windshield also has its place on a VW Scirocco. Because before Reeves Callaway made a name for himself in 1987 by force-breathing the Chevrolet Corvette, the tinkerer from Old Lyme, Connecticut, produced turbo kits for European imports - preferably from Germany.
In addition to performance upgrades for BMW, Porsche and Audi, conversion kits for VW were also part of the repertoire of Callaway Cars, which was founded in 1977. While the well-behaved EA827 naturally aspirated itself to a maximum of 75 hp at 5600 rpm, the 1.6-liter produced around 125 non-intercooled hp after the Callaway cure. Maximum torque increased from 117 to almost 170 Nm as a result of forced ventilation.
Of course, the Golf, Jetta and Caddy were also given a corresponding boost by Callaway's hands. But the sporty Scirocco was undoubtedly the most suitable casing for the extra oomph. How does the turbo VW feel compared to a G-Lader? It's best to find out for yourself. One of the rare Callaway Sciroccos is currently on offer at bringatrailer.com.
