Honest exhaust

More and more modern cars on the road have designer "exhaust tips" that have no function at all. It looks like an exhaust opening, but there is nothing behind it. This is the case with Volkswagen, but also Mercedes-Benz and many other manufacturers. "Fake exhaust" is the buzzword on social media.
It used to be completely different (of course), in the pre-war era anyway, but also in the 1950s to 1990s. Exhaust tips were only discovered as a design attribute well after the war, but then it mostly remained simple with placement variants and folded pipes. Chrome trims for the ends were also popular. Where there was an exhaust pipe, something came out. There were no blind pipes. Just honest ...
