Where real (mini) racing is still on offer at the DTM weekend
08/21/2019
What was the highlight of the DTM race at Brands Hatch? The little ones put on the best show!
The starting field of minis once again stole the show from the big DTM cars. Overtaking was still allowed in the race and nobody was simply waved past.
It was the kind of racing you want to see. With hot drifts and lots of scuffles, the small cars flew in formation and swept the numerous fans off their seats.
The Mini drivers could only laugh at the team order Audi celebrated in Sunday's race with Rast and Müller.
They wanted to race on one of the most beautiful tracks in the world and they really did race, without any ifs or buts, so that it was once again a real pleasure.
Aaron Smith was on pole with a time of 1:44.857, René Rast mastered the 3.916 km long uphill and downhill track with the DTM Audi in 1:15.134. Of course, the DTM car is around 30 seconds faster, but the quality of the race was much more exciting at mini speed. Perhaps only because you simply had a little more time to watch.
The Mini race in the "Miglia class" was won by Aaron Smith ahead of Kane Astin and Rupert Deeth after a thrilling three-way battle.
