When you could still drive on despite the breakdown

Now you can hear them on the radio again, the traffic reports about blocked tunnel passages. Reason: broken-down vehicle.
In fact, modern vehicles often simply come to an irretrievable halt when the electronics are convinced that it is or should be impossible to continue driving. A small sensor can put the brakes on further travel, regardless of whether you are in a highway tunnel or on a side road.
Although breakdowns are much rarer today than 50 or 80 years ago, their consequences are usually more serious. Hardly any modern car still has a suitable spare wheel if a tire is punctured. Our grandfathers, on the other hand, often drove around with two spare wheels.
If a modern car runs out of power, it is no longer possible to push it along. Just 30 years ago, pushing off or letting the car roll was part of driving school. If a (simple) V-belt failed in the car of yesteryear, a lady's stocking was used as a replacement in an emergency.
The list could go on and on. The modern car may have many advantages, but in the event of a breakdown, the classic car is the more pleasant partner ...
