When the youngtimer becomes a classic car
05/17/2019
It actually happens automatically, the transition from youngtimer to classic car. When a car turns 30 years old, it makes this transition without any further action.
But although it is actually just a jump in date, somehow a lot changes for the car that can now call itself a classic car.
As a youngtimer, the car was even closer to the utility vehicle, originality was not always the top priority, driving pleasure, utility and distance from the masses were more important. The fact that the radio is much more modern than the car hardly bothered the youngtimer, just as little as the replaced steering wheel. However, other standards apply to classic cars, especially if they are to receive the accolade of an H license plate or veteran registration.
A lot also changes in the environment. As a classic car, the old car is now invited to serious events and rallies, whereas the youngtimer was more likely to be used for fun trips and special meetings.
Somehow, the transition from youngtimer to classic car reminds you of the transition from puberty to adulthood. This year, the Citroën XM, the Peugeot 304, the Opel Senator, the BMW 850i, the Opel Lotus Omega, the Mazda MX-5, the Opel Calibra, the Mercedes-Benz R129, the VW Golf Rallye and the Porsche 964 Carrera 2, among many others, are struggling with this transition.
