A rather unusual replica
05/13/2019
On Saturday, May 11, 2019, a Ford Model A was also auctioned off at the Motorworld Classics Bodensee. However, it was not an original, but a replica. It was based on a Ford Mustang.
The 1972 car was estimated at EUR 12,000 to 14,400, but Till Rosenkranz was unable to elicit a relevant bid from the bidders present.
The buyer would still have a lot of work to do before the car imported from the States could be registered for road use, even though various things had already been done.
Ford Model A replicas have a long tradition in the USA. In the 1980s, for example, the Shay Motors Corporation built several thousand well-made replicas of the Ford A and many Ford branches displayed and sold the car. There was even a warranty on the car, which was equipped with a Ford Pinto engine.
Today, it's hard to imagine anyone sacrificing a Ford Mustang as the basis for a Ford Model A replica, especially since very well-preserved originals are on the market today for less money than you would have to pay for a well-made replica.
