50 years ago, the Beetle was still available for less than 6000
Anyone looking for a VW Beetle from the 1960s today has to be prepared to pay around EUR/CHF 20,000 if the car is to be in very good condition. You'd be amazed that a VW 1300 only cost CHF 5995 in 1969.
It was even cheaper in Germany, where you could get the cheapest Beetle for just DM 4525, which would be around EUR 2300 today (without inflation/purchasing power adjustment). For the Schiebebach, which is so popular today, you would have added DM 287. For DM 5435 you could have bought a 1500 Beetle, for DM 8190 a Karmann-Ghia Cabriolet with a 1.5-liter engine.
The prices can be found in earlier issues of Automobil Revue and Auto Motor und Sport.
