How did the idea for the Miura rear blinds come about?
06/12/2015
It is a well-known design element of the late sixties, but especially of the seventies. In addition to the Lamborghini Miura , the slatted blinds above the rear window also adorned many a conventional car (from the Manta to the Scirocco), as they were available to buy as accessories in almost all sizes.
Whether the Miura was really the first car to be fitted with them, we don't know for sure. And we know even less about how Marcello Gandini , if it was him, came up with the idea in the first place. Perhaps he was simply sitting on a staircase and thought: Hey, that actually looks good, we could decorate the rear section in this way. At any rate, that's what the photo of the Lancia Stratos , which of course also sported such slatted blinds, seems to suggest.
However, well done it looks good, if it doesn't fit, then it looks dull.
But perhaps one of our readers knows the right story on this subject?
