Classics in a modern design language

"Retro design" has a mixed reputation; there are few really successful examples, apart from the Fiat 500 and a few other representatives perhaps. However, this should not obscure the fact that designers put breathtaking shapes on paper decades ago and that some design elements still look attractive today. In his spare time, yacht designer David Obendorfer incorporates such design elements into his "design workouts" and gives the icons of the time a new look, a second life so to speak.
In the case of the BMW 2000 CS , the effect is quite convincing. Some BMW customers might like Oberndorfer's version of a compact coupé better than the sharp-edged versions from the BMW design kitchen.
For us, at any rate, the designs bring back elements of beloved classics and this alone deserves recognition.
