Auto Zürich 2015 - The few old among the many new
11/02/2015
Of course, a new car show like "Auto Zürich", which once again brought together thousands of visitors over the weekend in the Züspa halls in Zurich-Oerlikon - on Sunday morning it felt more like tens of thousands - with new cars from most car brands, is not a classic car exhibition.
Nevertheless, lovers of old sheet metal naturally hoped to get a taste of tradition. In the first halls, however, "only new" was the order of the day for the first time. Neither Mercedes, nor BMW, nor Mini or Jaguar showed any old cars.
In the other halls, however, there was still plenty to see, such as the magnificent Maserati Birdcage, which advertised an engine oil (see picture above).
Of course, care accessory suppliers always like to use old cars to demonstrate the quality of their miracle products.
A nice touch at the Swissvax stand was that a VW Golf II was allowed to shine instead of one of the popular super classics.
The world record vehicles were of course interesting. In addition to the current Bloodhound SSC, which is said to reach over 1600 km/h, the almost miniature Fiat-Abarth 500 Record Pinin Farina from 1958 was on display.
Just 500 cm3 and 36 hp were enough for the 368 kg record vehicle to reach a top speed of 171 km/h and an average speed of 108 km/h over 18,186 km. The pilots in the cramped cabin were certainly not to be envied on this long-distance ordeal.
A BMW M3 in DTM livery was also on display on the tuning floor.
And one or two suppliers were also happy to show off their skills in the classic car and youngtimer sector. Or even provided new sounds with a tuned version of a classic car.
The VW Bus (T1), as presented by another care product supplier in the "right" colors, is of course always a popular classic car.
