My first car - Alfa Romeo Alfasud Ti 1.5
07/20/2014
It was dark blue and its engine had that characteristic sound that the four-cylinder boxer engines from the south of Italy made with sophisticated carburetor technology. And it was mine.
Although the three-door Alfa Romeo Alfasud TI 1.5, built in 1978, had to be repainted when it was just three years old, even before I bought it, and the torpedo panel rusted again just one year later, I still loved the "Sud". 6900 francs had changed hands when I became the proud owner of the car for the first time at the age of 21.
The journeys were not all smooth sailing. In Vienna, for example, the clutch gave up, but that didn't stop me from making the return journey back to Switzerland and successfully completing it.
I also dried the plugs a few times when the car wouldn't start. Yes, people used to do things like that. There were far fewer speed restrictions back then and on mountain passes, your own driving skills and the capabilities of the chassis - and this is where the Alfasud always scored - were the limiting factors and not radar devices or artificial constrictions.
Yes, it was a great time!
I sold the car again after a good year in order to move up to the Alfasud Sprint 1.5 Veloce in the Alfa Olympus, with an additional 10 hp and a twin carburetor. And in the color "chocolate brown".
