The unknown Audi 80 Variant
07/19/2014
Of course we know the Audi 80 (Type 80/82 from 1972) and the Audi 80 Avant of Type 89 a few years later. But there was already an Audi station wagon/station wagon in the 1960s that bore the type designation "80 Variant" on the rear.
This early Audi 80 Variant was based on the F103 series, which in turn was a further development of the DKW F102.
The engine compartment of the three-door Audi 80 Variant, which was produced from 1966 to 1968, contained a 1695 cm3 water-cooled four-cylinder engine with an output of 80 hp. The Audi 80 of the F103 series was an imposing car, measuring almost 4.4 meters in length, 1.63 meters in width and 1.45 meters in height. The weight leveled off at one ton.
Many Audi 80 Variant cars are unlikely to have survived, but one can be seen today on a tour of the Bergisch-Gladbach area at the Rallye Historique on the occasion of the Schloss Bensberg Classics 2014, brought to the start by Audi Tradition. We will be reporting in detail on the rally and Concours d'Elégance.
