Clash of the giants - or - when David takes on Goliath
The veterans also make an appearance at the F1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne's Albert Park. The small but much faster Salmson GP from 1927 meets the giant Bentley Speed 6 from 1930, with the right rear tire of the blue Salmson digging its claws into the asphalt. But what bad luck, the heavy Bentley does not accelerate as the Salmson expected.
On the contrary, the Salmson is forced into a wild braking maneuver because of the obstacle. The left rear wheel of the decelerating Salmson twitches upwards.
Everything is extremely close, but thankfully without any major damage. The angry Steen Pedersen in the Salmson angrily signals his displeasure to the "truck driver" Barry Batagol with hand signals.
A detailed report of the historic scene from Down-Under will soon be published on Zwischengas.
