MATTHEWS, engine fitter, has worked for Aston Martin since 1964- A former R.A.F. engineering apprentice, he will spend an average of 40 hours assembling an Aston Martin engine, which will then carry his personal nameplate. GODFREY COX, panel beater can "roll" the subtle curves of an Aston Martin door from a flat sheet of aluminium alloy. The front panel of the Aston Martin is a pressing, but this, too, will have some 30 hours hand work on it before it meets the standard of perfection these craftsmen set. JOHN COLEMAN, coach painter will apply up to 24 coats on an Aston Martin. Each car spends two weeks in the paint shop, and is roadtested before the final coats are applied. To achieve the final lustre of the paintwork, four lambswool pads will be used upon each car. Mrs PHYLLIS DORRILL, sewing machinist, works with the superb hides and rich carpet which create the sumptuous interior of the Aston Martin. Her skill is a living reminder that the Aston Martin factory at Newport Pagnell was once the premises of Tickfords, and before that of Salmons—hallowed names in the history ot fine coachbuilding and coachtrimming. ...Quelle:Archiv
