... The 1937 3V2-litre V. 8 - cylinder Jen sen Sports Tourer. The history of Jensen Motors goes back to 1875, when W. J. Smith, Ltd., coach and carriage builders, was established. In 1931, two young men with a passion for auto mobiles joined the firm; they were the brothers Richard and Alan Jensen. In three years' time they had acquired con trol of the company, changed its name to Jensen Motors Ltd., and built a prototype of the handsome open touring car that went into production in 1935. The mid-30's were hardly a favorable time for the birth of a new marque, but the PROFILE PUBLICATIONS, LTD.; ARTIST-TIM LOAKES. Jensen brothers' skill and dedication car ried them through those difficult years. Automobile manufacture was suspended during the second World War, when the factory was converted to defense produc tion. After the war Jensen went on to distinction as manufacturers of automo biles for the discerning motorist. The famous Nordic wings of the Jensen em blem identified cars of character, built for a limited market. The company later expanded into other fields, producing at various times, for other manufacturers, the Austin-Healey, Sun beam Tiger, Volvo P 1800, and one of the first aluminum heavyduty trucks.
