Have you heard of the Chrysler Hunter?
You’ve probably never heard of the Chrysler Hunter, although you might recognize the car—but as the Hillman Hunter. That model had already been unveiled for the first time in Paris in 1966. Starting in September 1976, the Hillman was renamed the Chrysler—though only in the United Kingdom, where this newly published sales brochure also originates. Production then ended in 1979 (for the time being).
In this country, the monocoque sedan was also known as the Sunbeam Hunter. Powered by a 1.7-liter engine, the elegant car was quite appealing. While most of the body panels remained largely unchanged throughout the entire (long) production run, the front end was modified time and again. “Value with a lot of style and comfort,” wrote the British marketing team, highlighting the selling points of affordability, elegance, and comfort.
Incidentally, in the 1960s and 1970s, the Hunter was marketed not only under the Sunbeam and Hillman brands, but also as a Dodge, Humber, and Singer.
The Hunter was also produced as the Paykan, assembled in Iran in the early 1980s.
