"Peak Auto" was already over 20 years ago (question of the month)
For decades, the quality, durability and longevity of the cars improved steadily ... until the zenith (Peak Auto) was reached and the vehicles became too complex, the materials more fragile and the delivered quality deteriorated again. But when was the peak? In which era were the "best" cars built that could survive the next few decades without any problems?
We wanted to hear our Zwischengas readers' opinions in a "question of the month" and asked the following question: When was Peak Auto?
It was a tough neck-and-neck race, but in the end, a narrow majority (32.1%) favored the 1980s or the transition to the 1990s.
Almost the same number of the more than 420 readers who responded (31.8%) see Peak Auto in the nineties or the transition to the new millennium.
Overall, therefore, almost two thirds of the respondents put their money on the eighties to nineties.
The seventies (8.6 %), the noughties (7.1 %) and the sixties or earlier (3.6 %) came in a distant second.
However, at least one sixth did not want to commit to a specific decade, as the dependency on the model series was high.
Only a few readers (0.5%) do not yet see Peak Auto as having been reached, while a further one percent could not come up with an answer.
Long story short. According to the Zwischengas readers, Peak Auto is already behind us.
