Do we have a price bubble in the classic car market?
12/09/2025
Our colleague Andreas Of-Allinger recently asked in an online article: "Is the price bubble for classic cars now bursting?".
But is there a price bubble at all and if so, in which segment? Is a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona at EUR 400,000 to 500,000 completely overpriced or an early Jaguar E-Type Series 1 at EUR 100,000 to 150,000?
After all, many things have become more expensive and the prices of most classic cars built before 1970/1980 have actually been falling slowly but steadily for almost eight to ten years. If so, then the price bubble for these cars peaked in 2015/2016 and not today. At the moment, I would not speak of a price bubble, but of a shift in the market.
However, whether the young super/hypersports cars can justify their currently soaring valuations in the medium/long term has yet to be proven.
