The fire extinguisher in classic cars is more common than you might think
09/14/2015
Classic car owners spend a lot of money on purchase, maintenance, accommodation and insurance, but hardly any on protection against fire. That's what people generally think. In fact, however, at least the respondents to the Zwischengas question of the week on the subject of "Fire hazards in classic cars" are well aware of the risks. An impressive 71% carry a fire extinguisher on board, just in case.
However, around 1/6 of classic and vintage car owners think completely differently. They consider special precautions to be unnecessary, as they believe that old cars do not burn more frequently than modern ones.
Another 5% resort to a fire blanket in an emergency, use water or call the fire department if there is a fire.
Around 4% have specially equipped their car with manual or automatic fire extinguishing systems.
So it does indeed appear that classic car drivers are better prepared for fire risks than users of modern cars.
For the sake of completeness, we show the individual results of the survey here:
And of course we have already asked the next question, this week we want to know which classic car eras will be the most sought after in the future?
