The somewhat different world record car - the VW 1500 S

Weltrekordfahrt mit dem VW 1500 S im Jahr 1964

Normally, people imagine record-breaking cars to be particularly aerodynamic and powerful. In 1964, however, twelve Austrian motor journalists set a world record on April 11 in a standard Volkswagen 1500 S.

They managed to cover 12,070 km within four days in the class for cars with 1100 to 1500 cm3, which corresponded to an average speed of 125.73 km/h.

Subsequently, the record attempts are said to have been continued with a VW Variant, as Automobil Revuereported in issue 18/1964 .
