Crazy weather at the Planai-Classic
01/05/2014
The weather is going crazy. While temperatures as low as minus 45 degrees Celsius are measured in America and there is a lot of snow in the south of Austria and Switzerland, the Föhn wind brings relatively warm air to Styria. There is hardly any snow. Rally and football legend Klaus Fritzinger commented: "We miss the snow. We actually came here to drive on snow, now we're practicing and doing as if. Otherwise everything is fine."
You could easily drive the Planai-Classic 2014 on summer tires. What is not allowed for the cars is absolutely irrelevant when it comes to fashion.
Only the Finn Rauno Aaltonen, in third place overall after the first day with 2041 points in his Mini Cooper, is wearing season-appropriate clothing (picture above).
All around him, completely different things are on display. Despite the cool temperatures, his wife shows "string" between the cars and in Schladming the dolls are even more lightly clad in the display.
Erich Landerl and Gilbert Ragowsky in a Volvo 123GT finished the first day as overall leaders. With 1778 points, they are at the top of the intermediate classification and are therefore also the measure of all things in Class 3. They were followed by Günter Schwarzbauer and Erich Hemmelmayer in a Datsun 240Z with 1995 points, ahead of the aforementioned Rauno Aaltonen and co-driver Helmut Artacke.
