Back in the 1970s and even decades earlier, people dreamed of robots that would do unpleasant jobs for them. However, these hard-working helpers were mainly seen in science fiction films.
In 1978, however, the Englishman Dennis Weston presented a car-washing robot that could clean a car on its own.
The fact that this artificial helper did not catch on was probably due to two factors: It was very expensive at around CHF 7,000; you could have bought a cheap car for the same money. And at four hours, it took too long to clean.
And people are still dreaming ...
