Vacations, leisure and work in America 50 years ago
Fifty years ago, the ideas of marketing people were different than they are today. This can be illustrated by car advertising for American vehicles from 1961:
The Plymouth Fury Sport Sedan was obviously aimed at the businessman, while the Plymouth Fury Convertible was aimed at artists or leisure people. Why the two met in the quarry, however, eludes the observer.
General Motors advertised the Chevrolet 61 with the slogan "on vacation in a Chevrolet". But that was not all, "classic, elegant, shorter and narrower - more beautiful than ever". Nothing was left out. The "shorter and narrower" may make you smile because of the expansive dimensions. How the body postures of the woman - on the windshield! - and the man - leaning over the trunk - can be interpreted is not entirely clear to us. But it is certainly amusing.
