Evictions also have a good side. When my Opel Rekord didn't want to start straight away after the winter break a year and a half ago, I spontaneously postponed the first drive. "I'll take care of that next weekend." But something else was always more important. And so weekend after weekend went by, while the fuel left in the tank slowly tipped over into an unwillingness to ignite, and the rear right wheel brake cylinder developed a dangerous incontinence unnoticed.
But when the black gem had to leave its parking space for total restoration, there were no more excuses. Together with a very dedicated young TCS man, we spent an entire Saturday morning getting the dusty sedan back on its feet. An experienced Opel garage mechanic put the brakes back on. Now the Rekord is running and slowing down again - only to be mothballed for next winter. Hopefully the fall will stay this golden for a while longer.
