Nowadays, hardly any cars are sold without sonar sensors to prevent contact when parking. Many manufacturers call this device, which beeps as soon as you are too close, "Park Distance Control".
More modern versions also show the distance on the LCD monitor. In today's relatively confusing cars, this is a very useful feature, especially as you can no longer even open the side doors on some models to get a better view when reversing.
However, vehicles were already confusing in the past and so resourceful drivers installed devices back then (and later) to prevent contact with the enemy.
Such aids were found on the Alfa Romeo 1900 (picture above), as well as on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or the big American.
Trucks also relied on the effect of mechanical distance warning devices.
