A very special and valuable Lotus Elan

Do you remember Peter Sellers, the British actor? His most famous roles were James Bond (in the parody "Casino Royale", Inspector Clouseau in "The Pink Panther" and Dr. Strangelove in the Stanley Kubrick film of the same name, among many other appearances. And he was married to the beautiful Britt Eckland. But above all, he drove a Lotus Elan S2, along with many other fast cars, because he was a car buff.
This Lotus Elan, a late example of the second series, which already showed the hallmarks of the third series (rear lights, electric windows, etc.) and was sold as a Special Equipment model.It went under the hammer last weekend at the NEC Classic Car Sale and was sold by Silverstone Auctions for £ 50'625, i.e. around Euro 72'000 or CHF 77'500, an impressive price for what is actually a normal Elan S2, especially considering that there was another Elan Sprint DHC in the same auction, which is actually more sought-after and yet cost a third less.
But that one didn't have a famous movie actor as a previous owner. It has to be said that the Sellers Elan was a real bargain compared to the Steve McQueen 911 ...
