Forgotten cars from TV series - Bobby Ewing in the Mercedes 560 SL and the Maserati Biturbo
"Dallas" is one of the best-known and longest-running television series of all time. The picture-book villain J.R. Ewing, the noble Miss Ellie and the idealistic Pamela Ewing drew millions of viewers to the screen episode after episode. But Bobby Ewing, the brother of John Ross Ewing (J.R.), also took center stage. He not only scored as the husband of the attractive Pamela, but also as a businessman of integrity.
In contrast to most of the other Ewing family members, Bobby almost consistently drove European cars in the series. The Mercedes-Benz convertibles of the R107 series, including a 450 SL, a 560 SL and a 380 SL, each painted bright red, were most commonly seen with the license plate "Ewing 4".
But Bobby also went off the beaten track once and had the license plate bolted to a Maserati Biturbo Spyder.
And after the demise of the R107 series, he naturally went for its successor, the R129, only now it was painted metallic silver rather than red.
During the more than 350 episodes of the Dallas TV series, a whole series of cars made a perhaps unexpected appearance on the screen. Lucy drove a Fiat X 1/9, a Zimmer Golden Spirt made several appearances and Cliff Barnes, J.R.'s antagonist, drove up in a Jaguar XJ-S in the eighth season.
