A plea for slowness
10/10/2014
Road traffic is becoming slower and slower, and speed is becoming increasingly regulated. Overtaking on country roads is increasingly becoming an exceptional situation, so dense is the traffic and so low is the possible excess speed.
This raises the question of whether fast post-war vintage cars like the Porsche 911, Jaguar E-Type or Mercedes Benz 280 SL are still the most fun to drive per kilometer when you are slowed down by traffic regulations and constant traffic jams.
Isn't the pre-war automobile increasingly becoming the ultimate challenge? Because in a "really old" car, even shifting into gear without any background noise is a pleasure. And 60 km/h is quite a respectable cruising speed for some of these early vehicles.
A journey of 500 or even 800 km is certainly a veritable adventure in a pre-war classic and you will probably experience more on this route than with some more modern classic cars over a whole year.
Why not start with a ride and enjoy the pleasure of slowness ...
