The horn button clock - a useful accessory from the past
60 years ago, drivers had to make do with much less than they do today. If they had enough money, they at least ordered a heater with their new car. Beyond that, however, the sparsely equipped everyday vehicles still left a lot to be desired. For example, many cars lacked a clock. And this, in turn, naturally called the accessories industry onto the scene, which consequently offered retrofit clocks in addition to the first car radios.
You could then install such a clock in the steering wheel of your VW Beetle instead of the "horn button". The pretty timepiece was always in view. However, it was probably a nuisance to have to wind it again and again, as it was probably still manually operated at the time.
