Events that speak!
06/30/2025
I like comments, and I like commenting, although I always worry that the spoken word over a loudspeaker might be too much. However, I've never had any negative comments about it - so no one has ever told me to shut up. And so I carry on. In mid-June, there were two events - the Lenzerheide Motor Classics and Wald Rollt - where I had the pleasure of talking over the microphone, and this Sunday I was once again on duty as a speaker, this time at the foot of the Säntis in Appenzellerland.
The classic car meeting on the Schwägalp (photo) is an uncomplicated affair, and it regularly amazes with an incredible range, which this year extended from a Smart of the very first series - and at the time a brand new sensation from a competition win - to a veritable Maybach SW 38! This also makes it interesting for the speaker when it comes to commenting on what is happening, in this case the arriving cars, without any preparation. Have you ever translated simultaneously from one foreign language into another? That's what it feels like when cars of all different kinds and types drive in at the same time and you have to provide a reasonably competent commentary - once through the history of cars and types and back again. It's a kind of brain training. However, I think it's great fun and a fun challenge. In addition - the most important point - an event speaks directly to the visitors. This is particularly valuable to me. In fact, I often find it rather strange when a meeting is perfectly organized, but there is no real speech and the organizers, or at least their representative - a speaker - are missing, a silent event, so to speak. So, I like doing that.
And sometimes, very rarely, I'd rather I could just grab the microphone and convey the thoughts in question that way instead of hitting the keys. But that's enough now! I've spoken enough for now.
