From the first drawing to the car of the year
Work on the Chrysler C6 project began in 1972. After abandoning the idea of building a classic rear-wheel drive car, Simca's vision of constructing a modern five-door car with front-wheel drive was able to move forward.
The first drawings were used as the basis for detailed, near-production scale drawings.
These drawings formed the basis for the clay model, which took shape around a year after the start of the project.
The development continued. This was followed by wind tunnel tests, crash tests and all sorts of other things. In the course of 1975, driving and endurance tests were carried out.
Development was finally completed in the summer of 1975 and the Simca 1307/1308 celebrated its premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October.
And the fact that the engineers and designers had done a great job was proven by the vote for Car of the Year, which the new car won in the spring of 1976, beating the BMW three (316-320) and the Renault 30.
