There are many cars with girls' names: Mitsubishi Celeste, Nissan Silvia, Toyota Carina. But VW Lea? Never heard of it. Admittedly, the name is not complete. Because there is still an engine capacity figure missing in the middle. This identifies the VW 1600 LEA as a member of the Type 3 family. A little more equipment turns the bare 1600 into an L (luxury), a Bosch D-Jetronic into an E (injection) and a self-shifting three-speed gearbox into an A (automatic). Of course, this abbreviation was not found on the car itself (see below), but was sometimes used in test reports. Nevertheless, the well-behaved Lea did not become a competitor for the fiery Giulia...
