The Hataz small car - the mountain king
01/12/2012
The magazine "Der Motorfahrer" (No. 1/1924, page 9) described the Hataz 4/14 PS from 1923 as a "properly powerful and really reliable small car". This was also proven by the fact that the Haraz was the "first winner" at the Reichsfahrt on the occasion of the Pforzheim hill climb in 1923.
The small four-cylinder engine(3.9 hp, 972 cm3) produced 18 hp in a racing-style setup; three forward gears and a reverse gear, which could be engaged using the external gearshift, were used to divert the power to the rear axle. The sleek car was fitted with 710/90 Hering wire wheels. Thanks to its comparatively wide track, the car cornered "almost like a big car".
In 1925, Hataz was sold to Horch, which was also based in Zwickau, after it had become financially underwritten.
According to Wikipedia, the only remaining Hataz (racing car) is in the German Automuseum. There are said to be no production cars left.
