Almost extinct today, minivans were booming in the nineties. There was hardly a brand that did not have a large saloon in its range - even if it was only a third-party design with its own emblem.
Even though there were similar concepts before that, the Renault Espace is now regarded as the model that helped the interior space giants achieve their breakthrough in Europe. In contrast to the VW Multivan, it was not a pretty van, but a spacious passenger car. At last, instead of a basket of provisions and two folding chairs, you could take the whole living room, including table and sofa, on a picnic without feeling like a removal company.
But the biggest advantage of the minivans was also their biggest weakness. After the Peugeot 806, VW Sharan, Fiat Ulysse and the like had served as family carriages for long enough, it was really removal companies, tradesmen and bulky goods owners of all kinds who enjoyed these handy space wonders in fourth or fifth hand. Really good examples of vintage and veteran age have therefore become really rare - and yet usually not expensive.
