The mysterious Targa from VW

In February 1974, the magazine "mot" predicted a small and sporty Targa from VW. At that time, the VW and Audi Group modular system also offered the possibility of producing specialties at low cost. A possible market launch in 1975 was predicted, which meant that the Targa based on the Golf (or Polo?) could have replaced the Karmann Beetle convertible.
However, the launch was seen as dependent on the development of the European sports car market, but also on the sales potential in the USA.
Well, today we know that the 2+2-seater Golf/Polo-Targa remained an idea and the Beetle Cabriolet continued to be built for a while until it was finally replaced by the Golf Cabriolet with a bow. Perhaps it was better that way, because the proportions of the Targa Coupé didn't look quite so successful after all ...
