Safety cars could also look quite attractive
At the 18th Tokyo Motor Show in November 1971, 780 vehicles were presented, 85 of which came from abroad.
One of the main attractions was the Nissan 216 X, a safety car that looked less clumsy than the efforts of other manufacturers.
The 216 X was powered by a transversely mounted four-cylinder engine with a displacement of two liters. While driving, the bumpers extended pneumatically by 15 cm. A periscope was installed in the hump on the roof to ensure optimum visibility to the rear. In addition, the car was already equipped with airbags.
