The rally specialist for all days

Nowadays, hardly anyone would think of Opel behind the advertising slogan "The rally specialist for all days", nor would they think of an Opel Kadett (now Astra) in modern times.
But things were different in the mid-seventies. Opel built the Kadett GT/E, a two-tone yellow and black coupé with a 1.9-liter injection engine and a whopping 105 hp, which was enough for a top speed of 180 km/h and a time of 10.5 seconds for the standard 0 to 100 km/h sprint. And the power was still transmitted to the rigid rear axle via a cardan shaft.
This car was a dream car for young people, so there was no need for Walter Röhrl in the advertising. Incidentally, he was also still young at the time and drove various Opel vehicles (Kadett, Ascona, Manta) in rallying, long before he switched to Fiat/Lancia and later to Audi.
And of course there are more photos of the Kadett GT/E in the Zwischengas archive , and of course in high resolution.
