Gaisbergrennen 2011 - Clear the ring!
On Saturday morning, the participants of the 2011 Gaisbergrennen were invited to drive on the Salzburgring. Driving your car on a circuit is always something special, lots of space, a wide track layout and long straights tempt you to test your limits. Accordingly, a bit of nervousness was already noticeable early in the morning and even the drivers, who only arrived at 11:00 in a later group, arrived early at the Salzburgring.
The Salzburgring classification was also set up according to the principle of uniformity: first you drove practice laps, then a reference lap and then the aim was to keep to this reference time with as little deviation as possible over several laps. After that, you could enjoy the Ring without any worries, which some of the participating cars clearly enjoyed. Various sports cars stood out with good lap times and a sporty driving style.
But watch out, you could also overdo it. A Porsche 356 had to be freed from the gravel at the chicane after the finish area, which led to a red phase.
But it was also exciting for the spectators, as it is rare to see such different vehicle concepts compared when cornering at speed. It's not every day that you see a huge Ford Galaxie next to a Bizzarrini or Austin.
In the afternoon, the event was rounded off with another special drive up the Gaisberg. For the last time, the participants drove up the beautiful road to the Gaisberg, many of them with little restraint, as far too many penalty points had already been accumulated and a promising position was no longer possible. In beautiful early summer weather and with a large crowd of spectators, the vehicles still in the classification all arrived at the top of the mountain without any problems. The field had already thinned out a little, as the last few days had taken their toll on the old technology here and there.
In the evening, the traditional award ceremony took place in Hangar 7, many trophies were presented, the ten women's teams present were honored and the short version of the Gaisberg 2011 film was shown.
