A Romanian gets lost in the Eifel
05/03/2021
When the Romanians come to the Eifel to get involved in professional racing, it comes with a lot of luggage, as can be seen in the wonderful picture of Josef Reinhard from one of his trips to Romania.
The history of Dacia begins in 1952, when the plant was built in Colibasi, now Mioveni. Initially just a supplier for trucks, it was modernized in 1967 and converted into a car plant in partnership with Renault. Production began with the first licensed production of the Renault 8 and with the Dacia 1300, the second licensed production based on the Renault 12, a total of 1,959,730 vehicles were built in 35 years. The Dacia "Renault 12" became the "Volkswagen" of Romania. In the picture, it can be seen at a rally in Portugal from the 1980s as an entry vehicle and in the estate version as a support vehicle.
At the weekend, the three Germans Oliver Kriese (team owner), Harry Ohs and "Doom" Jürgen Bussmann (team manager) drove a Dacia Logan in the NLS 3 race at the Nürburgring in preparation for the upcoming 24-hour race. They were still by far the slowest in the 160-strong field. The vehicle from "Ollis Garage" from Münster is based on a Dacia Logan Cup car.
The team modified the car for use on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Instead of the 1.6-liter engine, the four-door car is now powered by a 2-liter engine. The engine output is 165 hp. The car will compete in the SP3 class in the Nürburgring endurance series and the 24-hour race. Bussmann says about the project: "Many drivers and team members from other teams came to us to admire our converted Dacia Logan and everyone praised the idea and in traffic on the track we had no problems at all with the other participants, not even with the faster vehicles."
We wish the team toi-toi-toi for their project!
