Car theft 40 years ago

Stolen cars were already an issue 40 years ago, especially in the USA. "Car and Driver" even described car theft as the most popular recreational sport. The vehicle favored by thieves in the United States at that time was the Chevrolet Impala, which was probably also due to good sales and the fact that four-fifths of thefts were committed by teenagers who were simply looking for a luxurious vehicle for a joyride. However, the Chevrolet Corvette was also popular - after an average of thirty minutes "parking time" on the streets of New York, the sports car went missing back then.
The recommendation of the magazine "Car and Driver" to its readers who wanted to protect themselves against car theft was laconic: "Buy a car that nobody would like to have. For example, buy a Humber Super Snipe."
