The online auction house Catawiki is putting 22 classic cars under the hammer until May 9, 2021. The auctions will only take place online. The most expensive of the vehicles on offer is a Ferrari 250 GT 2+2 from 1962, which is estimated at EUR 407,000 to EUR 450,000 and comes with a large portion of patina.
The holy grail
One of the absolute highlights, however, is a Plymouth Superbird 440CI 'Super Commando' from 1970. The Superbird was a modified Road Runner that was specially developed for NASCAR racing and is now considered the "Holy Grail" of all MOPAR muscle cars. Or to put it in the words of an expert from Catawiki: "The Superbird was quirky and the pinnacle in the battle for the crown of the most aerodynamic muscle car marketed as a homologation model for NASCAR racing in the late sixties and early seventies."
It was the direct successor to the Dodge Charger Daytona, which was the first American automobile to be developed in a wind tunnel. With the know-how of some NASA engineers, the vehicle underwent an intensive aerodynamics program. The result was an extremely long and pointed snout that literally cut through the air. Expressed in figures, this equates to around 390 km/h! The Superbird was the next evolutionary stage of this concept.
Due to the changes in NASCAR regulations from 1970, which stipulated that one car had to be built for every two dealerships (equivalent to 1920 cars for Plymouth), the Superbird was only built for one year. Many vehicles were later converted back to Road Runners, making the Superbird particularly rare.
The vehicle offered here is the 128th Superbird ever built. The color is called "Lemon Twist" and is perfectly complemented by the black vinyl roof (factory option). Under the hood is a 7.2-liter eight-cylinder engine. The vehicle is in very good overall condition and comes with full documentation. Anyone looking for a vehicle with legendary status should not miss this unique opportunity. The vehicle is offered without a minimum price!
Something for everyone
In addition to the Ferrari 250 and Plymouth Superbird, there are numerous other vehicles up for auction that could hardly be more different. An Abarth 1000 SP from 1968 or a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 EVO 1 from 1989 (1 of 500) are among the absolute highlights. At the lowest end of the price list is a 1932 Ford V8 Cabriolet VandenPlas, so there should be something for every wallet size and every taste.
