Summary
With a pre-war share of 54%, the 18th Hershey auction by RM/Sotheby's on October 9 and 10, 2024 was certainly rather unusual. However, with a sale rate of 99%, a "no reserve" share of 74% also helped, of course. However, 20% new bidders and a very international turnout showed that interest in earlier cars is still high. And the fact that a quarter of the vehicles were sold above their estimated value proves that they are still worth something. This auction review analyzes the results and shows the cars in pictures.

Preview (beginning of the article)
The annual RM/Sotheby's auction in Hershey is fundamentally different from other auctions organized by the Canadian service provider. In Hershey, the cars are older and much more American, and this was also the case on October 9 and 10, 2024. Around three quarters of the 162 vehicles auctioned, including four motorcycles/carriages, came from the USA. Brands such as Chrysler (18 vehicles), Cadillac (14), Ford (14), Packard (13) and - as the largest non-American brand in the Hershey Lodge - Rolls-Royce (12) dominated. In total, vehicles worth almost USD 18 million went under the hammer, 120 of them (i.e. around two thirds) without any minimum price being demanded.
