From 1932 to 1939 (the last examples were delivered one or two years later), Lincoln built the K series in a wide variety of versions, some of which were designed by well-known external coachbuilders of the time such as LeBaron or Brunn. The vehicles belonged to the absolute luxury class and had a V12 engine of up to 6.8 liters. This report shows a LeBaron Coupé from 1936 in detail and briefly describes the entire model series, supplemented by two rare original sales brochures.
From 1936, Lincoln offered the Lincoln-Zephyr V12, an aerodynamically shaped ultra-modern automobile which, unlike the Chrysler Airflow, sold very well and was popular. The design came from Bob Greogire and John Tjaarda. This vehicle report shows two models from the Lincoln-Zephyr range and describes the peculiarities of the new design behind which Edsel Ford stood.
The Lincoln Cosmopolitan Town Sedan was only built for one year, with 7,302 examples built in 1949. One of them was purchased by the Swiss Carl Bucherer, who won his category at the Lucerne beauty contest in 1949. 63 years later, the car stands before us, unrestored but still largely complete, in anticipation of another future. This article shows the vehicle, which is probably unique in our part of the world, as it was found, and retraces the history of the Cosmopolitan series with many historical pictures and brochures.
The Lincoln Premiere of the 1956 and 1957 model years represented a major step forward for the brand. It was made possible not least by two influential concept cars from the Ford conglomerate. And so the Premiere also impressed with its dream car appearance, which Ford paid for with a dream car price - after all, a Premiere cost more in this country than a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. This report looks back at the two model years and shows a vehicle from each in detail.
The Lincoln Continental, built from 1961 to 1970, was remarkable in several respects: it impressed with its simple, balanced lines and was also offered as a four-door convertible. Although this did not achieve high sales figures, it nevertheless enjoyed a loyal circle of enthusiasts and still does today. This report goes into the history and peculiarities of the Lincoln Continental and shows it in many historical illustrations as well as in the original 24-page brochure.
For decades, three brands competed for the favor of the top ten thousand in the USA: Cadillac, Imperial and Lincoln. However, it was the vehicles of the Ford subsidiary Lincoln/Mercury that were used several times as the basis for the presidential limousines, in particular the Continental models. In 1939, 1950, 1961, 1968 and 1972, the respective American presidents took possession of special versions of the Lincoln. This article describes the advantages of the various presidential limousines and shows them in many historical photographs, supplemented by pictures of the production version.
In 1960, Lincoln presented a new Continental, restrained in styling, self-supporting and - surprise - more compact than its predecessor. President Kennedy obviously liked the new model and had a special presidential version built by Hess & Eisenhardt, which instantly became internationally famous following the assassination attempt in 1963. No wonder copies of the 6.4-meter-long convertible were then produced. This report starts with the '61 Lincoln Continental, lists the President's special requests and shows a 1:1 copy of the convertible as well as the original 1961 version in many pictures.
From 1966 to 1968, the American television station ABC produced the TV series "Batman", in which Adam West played Batman and Burt Ward played Robin. Another important role was played by the Batmobile, which was actually a discarded twelve-year-old concept car called the Lincoln Futura. The whole story is told in this vehicle article and of course there are also pictures of the individual evolutionary forms.
Upholstery as soft as marshmallows and a hood as wide as the land. The Continental Mark IV still embodied the traditional form of luxury, where comfort was paramount. We let a 1972 example take us back to the seventies and inspire us to write this article.
