For decades, three brands competed for the favor of the top ten thousand in the USA: Cadillac, Imperial and Lincoln. However, it was the vehicles of the Ford subsidiary Lincoln/Mercury that were used several times as the basis for the presidential limousines, in particular the Continental models. In 1939, 1950, 1961, 1968 and 1972, the respective American presidents took possession of special versions of the Lincoln. This article describes the advantages of the various presidential limousines and shows them in many historical photographs, supplemented by pictures of the production version.
