The event on the Oerlikon velodrome (in the north of Zurich) is a highlight of the year. Historic racing cars and motorcycles do three laps, with bicycle races taking place before and after. At the spectacle in the velodrome on Thursday, July 27, 2023 (postponed from the original date of July 25, 2023 due to bad weather forecasts), there will be no shortage of sausages and drinks.
The program is simple: the first run takes place from 18:00 to 18:30, the second from 19:30 to 20:00, then the third and final run at dusk from 20:30 to 21:00.
Admission costs CHF 20.00, the ticket office is open from 16:00.
The field of participants includes many special cars from the past. To name but a few: Lagonda M-45 Le Mans from 1934, Bugatti 37A from 1926, Bugatti Type 35B from 1929, Alfa Romeo 6C from 1939, McLaren M16 CanAm from 1967, Allard J2 from 1951, Lotus 23 from 1963, Austin-Healey Sprite from 1960, Maserati 8CM from 1933, Alfa Romeo Typo B P3 from 1934, Ferrari 340 America from 1950, MG K1 from 1934, BMW 328 from 1939, Martini Mk28 F2 from 1983, March 703 from 1970, Nash 480 from 1930, Ford Sprint Car from 1930 and many more.
Just looking at the cars in the paddock inside the Velo-Oval is a unique pleasure.
Georg Kaufmann is responsible for organizing the cars, while Jo Kaufmann is in charge of the motorcycles. Karl Marty is the ride leader.
The event has been postponed to Thursday, July 27, 2023 due to inclement weather on Tuesday.
