In 1967, the Shelby G.T. 500 was launched, a Mustang hatchback coupé with a mighty seven-liter V8 under the hood which, with a few tricks, was good for over 350 hp. At the end of the sixties, this was pretty much the most powerful Mustang variant possible, but it was not built for long.
In the new millennium, the Ford marketing people remembered the legendary car and Shelby GT 500 models were produced again from 2007. The old name had already been reintroduced in 2005 at the New York Auto Show.
However, it would be another two years before the new GT 500 reached dealerships. In 2014, there was another caesura when the fifth generation of the Mustang was discontinued; whether a successor will come this year, to coincide with the anniversary, is still written in the stars (or the secret plans of Ford managers).
Of course, much has already been reported about the Ford Mustang on Zwischengas.
