Aston Martin DB4 Series IV Convertible Special Series Vantage
€
The DB4 was a major and important step in the evolution of Aston Martin road-going sports cars. A completely new 3.7-liter engine, developed by Tadek Marek, was combined with a modern chassis. A wishbone suspension in conjunction with Dunlop disc brakes all round and more precise rack-and-pinion steering rounded off the technical package. The beautiful and highly elegant body was designed by Carrozzeria Touring in Milan and built using the special "Superleggera" process (aluminum skin on a steel ribbed frame) at Tickford in Newport Pagnell.
The Aston Martin DB4 was built in five series from 1958 to 1963. From 1962 (fourth series), the body became slightly higher and longer for more space in the interior and the buyer could order the so-called "Special Series Vantage" version. This included an engine with 3 SU carburetors (instead of 2) and an increased output of 25 hp.
A Convertible was also introduced in 1962, of which only 70 were built, making these cars extremely desirable today. Of these, 30 were built in the 4th series and 40 in the 5th series.
This Aston Martin DB4 Convertible is a very special vehicle. Only 11 DB4 Convertibles of the 4th series were ordered new with the more powerful Special Series engine. This vehicle is one of them and still has the original engine.
