Summary
At the end of the 1960s, Alpine patron Jean Rédélé realized that his Berlinette A 110 could no longer meet the increased comfort and performance requirements of demanding sports car buyers for all time. Thus the Alpine-Renault A 310 was born, which was built around 11,600 times between 1971 and 1985 and was initially equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and, from 1976, with a 2.7-liter six-cylinder engine and was certainly a match for the sports car competition of the time. This vehicle report traces the history of the A 310 and shows the car in contemporary and many rare historical illustrations, as well as in two sales brochures from the period.

Preview (beginning of the article)
It is not easy to present a successor to a sports car legend, and a legend it was, the Berlinette Alpine A 110. However, Jean Rédélé had no intention of replacing the A 110, which was so successful in rallying, but rather sought to expand the model range upwards in order to offer luxury-oriented buyers an alternative to the omnipresent Porsche 911. The two-seater Alpine A 110 had been on the market since 1963 and had caused a sensation, particularly in rally racing, when patron Jean Rédélé thought it was time to expand the model range in 1968. He was aiming for a classic Gran Turismo sports car, large enough to accommodate four seats and a V6 engine, which had just been created on Renault's drawing boards.
